Card with chip and PIN
Bank cards with the BankAxept logo can be used at more than 100.000 points-of-purchase in Norway. A built-in chip combined with a personal PIN code enables fast, easy and secure payments deducted directly from customers’ accounts. The purchase is completed only if covered by funds on the account. There is no minimum purchase limit. The customer can also make cash withdrawals when making a purchase.
BankAxept cards work at all Norwegian ATMs and payment terminals.
The majority of debet cards issued in Norway are so-called combined cards, meaning that they have both BankAxept and either Visa or Mastercard. As a general rule, the BankAxept part of the card is used for domestic purchases, while the Visa/Mastercard part is used for international purchases.
BankAxept cards are offered by all Norwegian banks
Contactless cards make payments easier and faster. Purchases are completed in less than half a second. The PIN code is required only when the purchase surpasses NOK200. The purchase is completed as the card first touches the payment terminal, the terminal sounds a ‘beep’ signal and the display confirms the transaction. The new contactless cards retain traditional functionality as well.
Contactless cards make payments faster and easier.
Contactless payment is based on NFC (Near Field Communication) technology – enabling wireless communication between the card and payment terminal by radio signal. If the vendors payment terminal dies not support NCF technology, chip & PIN can always be used. NFC technology can also be used with mobile phones that support the technology – if the user downloads an app.
